Boy Scouts Motto, "Be prepared" is not just a catchy phrase to impress the ladies guys. Get into Modern and let us hook you up with what you need for the hill and park this holiday season for your friends and family.
Get upgraded this season from those uncomfortable whack goggles that fog up every 15 minutes. Check out our great selection of mirrored, fogged or reg. goggles by Anon, Dragon, and Spy. Other ideas for the snowboard enthusiasts in your life are; well, obviously a new board, boots, and bindings. As far as extras go you can't go wrong with stomp pads and leashes, locks, hats, gloves, tuning gear, helmet with stock headphones that plug into mp3 players, all purpose snowboard tools for tweaks on the go, or a snowboard bag. And if you can't make up your mind or just not sure what to get, a gift certificate covers all.
FYI, Habitat, Alien Workshop, and Element complete boards have been marked down to $109.99 from $129.99
Well it's been an eventful couple weeks. Snow, Pando and Cannonsburg opened, 6 for 1 at Boyne, everyone seems to have forgotten how to drive, and of course shop, shop, shop. Its important to remember that this is, "The most wonderful time of the year." A time for caring and a time for sharing. And of course a time for shredding.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays. Peace, Joy, Love, Happiness. Stay crunchy.

Break on Through to the Winter Side
Let's all take a moment to sit back and reflect about how our lives are going to be awesomfied in the next couple weeks by what weather speculators are saying, "should be a pretty harsh winter." Remember, there is no such thing as just being good or bad at winter sports. There is trained and untrained. So make sure you are fully equipped this winter with all the gear you need to take you to the next level. Whether you're a rocker, a camber, or a rockn' camber its time to get yourself geared up and ready for a wicked sweet winter session. Rock On.

Never Summer....cause let's face it, we'd love it to never be summer...
First in the pool, last call at the pub. Never Summer was one of the first to bring back the rocker technology, with AWARD WINNING results. Now er'body wants on the bandwagon!
Let's chat about the Never Summer tech for a few:
R.C. Technology is what they've coined (Rocker & Camber, patent pending) with Vario Power Grip sidecut. This combines a rocker freestyle feel with all mountain high speed performance. This new technology blends a NS custom rocker profile (in between the bindings) with separate camber areas at each end of the board, providing unmatched power and snap out of turns. This also provides better board tracking for high speed stability and massive ollies. The Vario Power Grip sidecut works perfectly with this design by adding increased edgehold from 2 inches outside of each binding, inward towards the center of the board providing added control and response in any condition. There is a straight section in the center, followed by a shallow radius along the mounting area, and a deep radius finishes at the tip and tail.
MAD POP, MAD HOLD, MAD POWER.
They believe in it too. Almost the whole line has this ridiculous combination of technological advancement!
If you're a freerider, check out the Premier F1-R and the Heritage-R or the Heritage XR for the bigger foot. All mountain freestylers will hold it down on the SL-R or the Legacy-R (big foot). For all you park stars, the Evo-R and the Revolver-R (big foot) will take your breath away. All of these boards mentioned are MADE IN THE USA and have 3 YEAR MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY! Just try and out-do that anywhere else!!!
Let's not forget the ladies...NS has your back on a quiver of softer flex and narrower shapes to keep you doin things better than them boys. Freeriders should get down with the Lotus-R, ladies version of the Premier. All mountain freestylers get down with the Infinity-R. These decks both come with the 3 year warranty and are made in Colorado. You can believe a board manufacturer in the CO knows what you're lookin for and how to build it.
There are two more boards in the line, the Circuit-R for the freestylin dudes and the Pandora-R for the freestylin ladies. Still R.C. Technology, lighter for performance in the park. These come in a lil less expensive, and since we know you're about to trash these ridin behind cars and what not, these only have a standard 1 year warranty.
I can't even lie, these boards are all built so well, I dare you to make a warranty claim. Triple Dog Dare.
Keep up the good fight, fight the power, power to the people, people pray for snow.
ALSO IN @ THE SHOP: LIB TECH & GNU LOOKIN FLYYYYYYYYY. WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE SHOES JUST GOT HERE, SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN. Get your new gear while the gettin' is good. We all know this stuff doesn't last forever!

THERE ARE STILL SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR THE LOCK IN. Ima say I told you so when you get left off the roster for slackin!!!

arm me with harmony...
OR TECH!
I thought, since Winter 2010 is almost upon us, that we would get into a little tech talk so you can make the bestest new board decision for your upcoming shred season.
Today we're gonna do a lil Burton featurette. Let's face it, Burton R & D is pretty sick...
We're all aware of camber. We're all now warming up to rocker. Let's get down to brass tacks:
Burton has a number of new rocker styles to choose from this year.
V-ROCKER is a center rocker section between your feet, and then at the tip and tail that will create a catch free playfulness and improved float. It's like a new-age skate feel. Can't go wrong! You can find this on boards like the Custom V, Heor, Joystick, Blunt and Lipstick.
P-ROCKER has zero camber (flat) between your feet with rockers outside of each foot that lift the tip and tail of your board completely off the snow. This is the answer for you park stars. It's great for pressing boxes and rails. You can find this on the Dominant, Fix, Con-dom and Blender.
S-ROCKER has a set back camber since the stance is set back for deep powder. The rocker is at the nose to promote float through powder. In Michigan, not so much, but if you're Travis Rice...get on your Fish and take a heli trip already!
FLYING-V mighty ducks? Nah! This is a hybrid of camber and rocker! There are rockers between and outside your feet to enhance playfulness and float, but underneath your feet there is traditional camber which improves edge hold for snap and pop, and more power through turns. (My personal fav!) Danny Davis doesn't lie, you can find this on the Easy Livin and the Fyling V boards.
CAMBER - tried and true, convex board shape that gives back energy while powering through turns and great pop and the tip and tail.
Don't forget, the GET LIFTED program in full effect this year. Buy a qualifiying Burton deck and get a free lift ticket! Check the Burton website for full details, I've heard tell even our local hills are involved!
Next week, on Tech Talk...Why YOU should ride a Never Summer snowboard!
NEW SUPRA AND LAKAI SHOES, NEFF, ES AND EMERICA APPAREL, ANALOG OUTERWEAR IN THE SHOP NOW!!! GET SOME!!!

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK
Greetings from Philly!
Mr. Shane McMahon, long time employee and general ace of skate has imparted on me some words of wisdom and excitement from the land of greasy steak n cheese on a hoagie. The new digs are great, classes suck, the weather is beautiful, parks and skate spots abound (He will be sending pics soon, and you will all want to visit immediately), Desmond is having a blast, life is all around excellent. Apparently, this guy regularly skates with Animal Chin. Yup.
He will be coming through around Thanksgiving for a feast of holiday skating and fooding. We will certainly be celebrating this visit with something radical, so keep yourself posted.
Much love from the McMahons!
TRICK OF THE DAY:
Caballerial Flip. GET WIDDIT.
Don't forget to keep yourself posted on the website and our blog...upcoming HALLOWEEN LOCK IN is in the works, details shortly!

WHY IS BURTON HERE ALREADY?
Yes, you read right. Burton is already here and looking rad. In addition to all the new hoodies and tees already out on the floor, there's a hand-full of 2010 BOARDS in the shop as well. You'll just have to bide your time and be the first to see them when they go out on the floor...soon and very soon...
Also new here in the shop is a little company you may have heard of called ROGUE STATUS! Just a small batch of tees in stock for now, but there are a bunch more and hoodies coming soon. Get on the all over gun print tip, post haste.
Also this weekend, we will be down at Wake Wars in the B.O.B. parking lot. The festivities will be going on Saturday and Sunday evening, there will be a small skatepark in the lot as well. Check out www.thebob.com/wakewars for full information on the event. Come down, hang out, and scoop yourself up some coupons for our park and shop. You just might be able to pick yourself up a Modern Sharpie Mustache too!
Nelson = Bill Cosby...makes me want a pudding cup. Late.

Wakeboarding is so hot right now...

Hyperlite Motive, Premier, and Syn just arrived in anticipation of the upcoming summer season. Jealous? It's about time you took stock of your deck and bindings, fins, ropes, handles and get some new gear while the gettin' is hot.
Let me spit a little education your way:
The Premier has a freestyle shape with a three-stage rocker that releases easily off the wake while not sacrificing any pop. It's been redesigned with a thinner profile to decrease weight and increase flex.
The Motive is a great board for beginners and intermediate riders alike. This freeride board provides for mellow turns and smooth lifts off the wake. It also has molded fins for increased stability and control.
The Syn is for the baddest of the ladies on the lake. New women's pro model shape with a variable edge design to carve sick turns and get mad pop off the wake. This board is as quick and responsive as they come.
So you've got to ask yourself one question? Are you ready for a throwdown?
(sorry, again my love of Bobby Flay is exhibited here.)
With any of this new equipment and some fly new apparel, you will be. HOLLA.

April showers bring May flowers...
So...question of the day: Who is your favorite Adio team member? Kenny Anderson maybe, or Danny Montoya? How about Steve Nesser? Ernie Torres or Ryan Bobier maybe...even Chris Troy? or maybe others? Well GUESS WHAT?
no...go ahead guess...I'll wait...
Well, you might have gotten it, I'll never tell, but that's correct. ADIO CHI-TOWN to MOTOWN TOUR coming to both our parks May 2009. Yup, in just three short weeks (May 20th in GR, May 22 in Royal Oak) you'll be able to throw down with the guys above, and more! More details to follow in the coming weeks, but just get ready. Dust off your Kenny V1s and get on that board. You gotta bring your A-game for these cats.

In recent park events, the Righteous Lives premier went premier-tastically. The video could be the best thing since sliced bread. Sorry folks, we're currently sold out, maybe next time you should heed my posts and get your self to our events so you don't miss out on the radness. Special thanks to DJ Sefon and the 61syx Teknique crew for partying with us afterwards during our after party skate session. Those boys can bust a move...don't sweat the technique.
This just in at the good ol shop: New DGK series, new Element youth Ts and decks, lots of awesome Consolidated merchandise...including the epic "Nike Sucks" decal. You gotta love Smart Monkey distribution for the willingness to get sued, if nothing else!
Alas, it's like a monsoon outside today...Never fear! Modern is always a warm and dry place to skate, inline and bike. Get your session on. Late.

Spring Break is in effect...

Winter weather advisory, bah! We've had some beautiful weather so far for Spring Break '09 and driving to work this morning it looks as though it'll stay that way for you all to enjoy the rest of your time off.
So what are you going to do with the rest of your week/weekend anyway?
Spring Skate Camp came to a close yesterday morning, *tear. I have to say it was a huge success, Mr. Shane McMahon and Mr. Matt Oz threw down in a style which Bobby Flay would be jealous (sorry, Food Network is one of my favorite things, second only to blogging). If you missed this one we will have three camps to look forward to this summer!
Hmm, camp is over, so now what?
Duh, the skate park is open for regular sessions for the rest of the week AND we're having a special late night session on Saturday night to help generate some funds for the street course remodel this summer.
The park opens at noon weekdays, sessions being 12-3, 330-630 and 630-930. Don't forget, if you run a bike, today's 630-930 session is special just for you. Saturday we have our group lesson from 930-11am, then sessions from 11-2, 230-530 and 6-9pm. This Saturday only, from 9-midnight we are having the fundraiser session. $10 bucks gets you skating the whole three hours (sorry, member rates do not apply to this fundraiser and rental fees will still apply) and don't forget your cash for the extra stuff we'll be having on sale that you can't get anywhere else!
Shop news!!! A brand new AWH shipment just arrived yesterday with new Plan B completes, Spitfire, Autobahn and Bones wheels, Baker, Deathwish, Chocolate, Girl, Krooked and Skatemental decks fresh off the presses. You gotta get here to check 'em out, remember it's nice out, they won't last long!!!

Shortboards are so overrated...

Spring is officially here, calendar wise, yet Mother Nature keeps toying with our emotions on the weather...warm, sunny, cold, sleet, warm, cloudy, hot, cold... Those of us die hards have no doubt already been through a parking ramp or two on the nicer days, bombin fountain hill during traffic lulls or hittin up the boardwalk path by the river. You have to ask yourself one question, does my ratty longboard from last year get the job done? Well...does it? PUNK?!
Of COURSE not!! Never fear, new Arbor is here! Street bugs, roller blunts and pin tails, OH MY! Arbor designs their bamboo and koa boards only from materials selected to reduce the impact that production has on the planet. Here's a few sweet points of interest that will help make you feel even more warm and fuzzy about your Arbor purchase: all their wood is renewable and sustainably sourced, all the by-products from production are reclaimed for use in other Arbor products (no scrap waste!), all the clear grip is made of crushed recycled glass...just to name a few.
We've got the full line in now, but hurry in, a few sold right out of the box!!!
ALSO!! Don't forget Saturday, April 11th we will be having a late night session to benefit the street course remodel scheduled to happen this summer. $10 gets you skating from 9pm to midnight (helmets/pads are still required, extra fees apply). Remember, this is a FUNDRAISER, so even if you have a gold membership, we all have to pay for the session, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
P.S. Remember, our store is a retail establishment. Please make sure you are following the rules when you are visiting our park/store. Maybe, even skate when your parents drop you off for a session, CRAZY HUH!? This just might happen to you if we get any lip...

I bet Sheckler went to skate camp when he was little...

What are you doing for Spring Break? Huh? Huh? Jet setting off to some far away tropical land in search of waves, a fresh skate spot...maybe even Disney World? Yeah, I thought not, but guess what you could be doing this break that will make not going anywhere worth it...that's right, SKATE CAMP!!! Who needs to spend thousands on a spring break trip when you could be at the skate park, three whole days straight, for a mere $120! Starting Monday morning, April 6 at the crack of dawn (well, 9am, but that IS the crack of dawn for skaters, right?!) we are kicking off our annual Spring Break Skate Camp. 3 days of spring break skatetasticness, lunch awesomely provided by Subway, and some cool steez for finishing camp. AND...wait for it...wait for it...SHANE MCMAHON will be here to throw down and teach you everything you need to know, as well as your favorite team members of course!
Instruction lasts from 9am to noon all three days (April 6, 7, 8), then you get to skate until 630 for free!
Can't make it all three days? You can sign up on a day by day basis too! $60 per day if you can't make all three.
Are you a Skate Park member? DUDE! You get $20 bucks off the 3 day price or $10 bucks off on the day rate. Doesn't get any better!!
Only ten days left to get your spot on the roster, don't delay!!!

Regular session fees apply as usual, first place up for a new Alien Workshop deck this week, second a set of wheelios and a chance to re-enter next time and whoop some tail to avenge your placement.
